FLOOD ZONE DWELLINGS – IN THE EVENT OF A FLOOD, THEY FLOAT
MADE IN SEBASTOPOL, VIC
AIR TIGHT TANKS
We put large poly plastic tanks underneath the cabin that are sealed airtight. Our Engineer calculates the litres of air needed to safely float your cabin depending on its weight.
POSITIONAL ANCHOR
The cabin needs to be secured in its location so that in the event of flood it does not float away. 2 Chains into concrete are good in the event of floods of less than 3 metres above ground level.
If there is a possibility of flooding over 3 metres, we use posts concreted into each corner of the cabin site with heavy nylon shipping lines inside the hollow of the post that will extend as the water rises.
UTILITIES
The notes below are subject to the exact rules and regulations in your specific location.
Sometimes regulations do not envisage this situation, so we look to regulations for boats in Marinas as being the closest similar situation.
WATER LINES
Need to have flexible connection. Pretty easy.
SEWAGE LINES
Set to disconnect in the event of flood. Important, as you don’t want rising sewerage to come up into your cabin.
GAS LINES
Normally your cabin will have LPG bottles on-board, and these will rise with the cabin. A mains gas connection is a lot more difficult to deal with in type of situation due to limitations in the lengths of a flexible connection.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
There is a bit of work with the type of flex and connections used, depending on the amount of power you have coming in.
